National Animals Of The Former USSR

SOVIET BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

What’s Tajikistan’s national animal? And what about Azerbaijan or Moldova?
Find it out with our ultimate list of state beasts of the former USSR!

Please note that legendary creatures such as the Russian double-headed eagle are not included in the list.
Furthermore, some countries such as Georgia and Uzbekistan do not have an official national animal: we have either chosen the animal featured in the country’s national emblem (Georgia) or the one most commonly represented in its postage stamps (Uzbekistan). Finally, one should note that Moldova’s national beast, the aurochs, is now extinct. Alas.
