DAY 1– Welcome to somaliland

  • Meet-and-greet at Hargeisa International Airport and transfer to our hotel of choice in central Hargeisa.

  • Introductory briefing about Somaliland, its history and its culture, short afternoon stroll in Hargeisa and traditional Somali dinner.

  • Overnight in Hargeisa.

DAY 2 – Hargeisa

  • Early-morning wake-up call and full-day architectural and cultural tour of Hargeisa: lively bazaars, authentic bazaars, dusty backstreets, and a Soviet MiG Memorial.

  • Afternoon visit to the twin hills of Naaso Hablood (literally: Girl’s Breasts) and the British War Graves, where a few comrade-in-arms from ye olde Blighty rest in peaceful oblivion.

  • Overnight in Hargeisa.

DAY 3 – Laas Gel

  • We'll start the day early and travel to the caves of Las Geel, a mesmerising archeological site with rock paintings dating back ten thousands of years.

  • With a bit of luck we might also spot some wild creatures inhabiting the natural areas surrounding the sleepy market town of Daarbuduq, including kudu, hyenas, gazelles, baboons, and even leopards.

  • We'll then continue to Berbera, a major coastal city with a fair share of rare Ottoman and British architectural gems as well as a highly photogenic fish market.

  • Overnight in Berbera.

Bespoke Experiences Traditional Somali cooking class and dinner with a local family in Berbera and full cultural immersion in a remote fishing hamlet on the Berbera-Saylac coastal track.

DAY 4 – Berbera

  • We will spend a lazy morning exploring Berbera and then head for the otherworldly beautiful mountain areas surrounding the small town of Sheikh.

  • In Sheikh itself we'll visit the ruins of the XVI-century city of Ferdusa, before eventually heading back to Berbera for the night.

  • Overnight in Berbera.

DAY 5 to DAY 6 – Zeila Archipelago

  • Sunrise wake-up call to set off for a once-in-a-life-time off-road adventure along the northern coastal track towards the remote fishing village of Lughaya and onto the melancholic port town of Saylac, the gateway to the famed Zeila Archipelago, also known as the Sa'ad ad-Din Islands: six paradisiacal islets famed for their splendid coral reefs, pristine sandy beaches, and thriving mangroves.

  • We will arrive in Saylac in the late afternoon / early evening and entirely devote the following day to an in-depth exploration of the Sa'ad ad-Din Islands.

  • Overnights in Saylac.

Day 7 – DJIBOUTI EXTENSION OR TRANSFER BACK TO HARGEISA

  • After sharing a last meal together in Saylac, we'll take care of either the onward transfer to Djibouti or the long offroad trip back to Hargeisa.

  • For those flying out from Hargeisa: full-day drive back to Hargeisa on rough tracks and early-evening arrival in the capital.

  • For those flying out from Djibouti: short transfer to Djibouti via Lawyacado, additional tour services in Djibouti available upon request.

  • End of the tour.
